Susan Beth Barak

Gold Winner, 2020 Toronto Star Readers' Choice Awards, Best Music Instructor

Susan Beth Barak is a member of the Toronto Musician's Association and appears regularly playing violin and viola, in a variety of concerts and events, throughout the GTA. Unfortunately, this summer's live music festivals are being cancelled due to the COVID-19 crisis. I was particularly looking forward to some magnificent performances for Easter in Richmond Hill, and the Symphony in the Barn summer festival under the direction of Kevin Mallon, and a tour of Ireland with the Great Lakes Symphony! Let's hope and pray that the situation resolves speedily and that our loved ones and neighbours stay healthy! I am so grateful for the heroic first-responders and front line workers who are sacrificing on behalf of the greater good.

Recent performances include solos in the Newmarket ORMTA Fund Raising Galas, and with the York Chamber Ensemble, where she is the Associate Concertmaster and Artistic Director. She is 1st violinist with a number of Toronto-based orchestras including St  Anne's Festival Orchestra and OnStage Productions, as well as other chamber groups around the Golden Horseshoe.

As Artistic Director of Heart-Strings, Susan regularly organizes duos, trios, and quartets for weddings, corporate events, and other special occasions that will be elegant and unforgettable. Susan has also organized a number of performances to benefit local non-profit organizations in Newmarket, beginning with Baroque for Belinda's Place in 2012.

Telemann's Les Nations and Sinfonia Spirituosa. Concerto for Recorder and Flute. Concerto for 3 Violins. Burlesque de Quixotte.

The October 28 concert at the Bradford Arts Centre by the York Chamber Ensemble will offer a full evening of Georg Philipp Telemann, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the composer's death.

The music of Telemann, a contemporary of Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach, has been described as “an important link between the late Baroque and early Classical styles” - and the evening promises to be a rare delight for lovers of classical music.

The York Chamber Ensemble regularly performs in Aurora, at Trinity Anglican Church. This will be the group's first appearance in Bradford, in the exceptional acoustics of the Bradford Arts Centre, 66 Barrie St. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on October 28. Tickets are $20; only $15 for Seniors and Students. For more information or tickets, see bradfordartscentre.org, or call 905-751-5335 – or see www.yorkchamberensemble.ca.
